When Henry Luce started LIFE in 1936, his mission statement for his new picture magazine was "to see life; see the world." LIFE ceased publishing as a monthly in May of 2000, but it has come back with two new special publications: One Nation: America Remembers September 11, 2001 and America's Parade: A Celebration of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Both books admirably fulfill Luce's mission. One Nation is a moving commemoration of Sept. 11 and its aftermath, while America's Parade is a celebration of this unique American ritual.
